A WOOLSTON childminder has been praised by Ofsted after an improvement in performance of care and teaching.

Amanda Rebecca Jayne Butler is an independent childminder from her home on Hickory Close.

In a report following an inspection in January, Ofsted said she was 'knowledgeable' about youngsters in her care, and that her teaching was good.

"She provides children with exciting and challenging play, which covers all areas of learning," said Ofsted.

"Children's individual needs are well known.

"The childminder has formed close relationships with the children and their parents, which ensures that they are happy, secure and settled.

"The childminder has a good understanding of the safeguarding and welfare requirements. She successfully implements policies and procedures to help keep children safe and to promote their well-being.

"Positive relationships with parents means that children's individual needs are met well and parents are well informed about all aspects of their children's development."

The overall inspection score was two, or 'good', bettering 2012's inspection when she was rated as three, or 'satisfactory'.

During the inspection, Ofsted observed activities in the main playrooms and outdoor area., and checked evidence of the suitability and the qualifications of the childminder.

The education watchdog did note several areas that could be improved.

It added: "Opportunities for all parents to share information about their children's achievements and interests at home are not maximised.

"Opportunities to support young children's growing awareness that print carries meaning, are not fully promoted."
