WIDNES Vikings bounced back from last week's late defeat with a 30-20 victory over Sheffield Eagles.

It was an eventful game for second row Adam Lawton who scored two tries, but was then sent off late in the game.

After tight opening exchanges Vikings' Shane Grady opened the scoring on 15 minutes with a close range effort.

Eagles responded with Ryan Millar full length effort after picking up a loose ball.

But on 36 minutes Jack Owens was halted short of the line, before Joe Lyons nipped in on the next play to score.

The visitors hit back on 45 James Glover crossing on the left, with the conversion attempt hitting the post.

Vikings responded when Josh Wilde ran a great line to send the supporting Craven over.

Lawton powered over for one try and then raced in for another to score his tenth of the season.

With 12 minutes of the contest remaining, Eagles' Glover collected Anthony Thackeray’s kick to score his second.

Right at the end Lawton was sent-off after an off the ball set-to.

Eafles had one more play and scored a consolation through Travis Corion.

It was too little too late for the visiting side though, as Widnes picked up a vital two points ahead of back-to-back away games.
