IF matches were decided on the number of chances created, leaders Runcorn Linnets would have won this Cheshire Women's League Premier Division encounter by the proverbial country mile.

The game was a procession of missed Linnets opportunities interceded by some fine counter attacking by the visitors.

Lile Ashley was the first to go close before Becky Barker provided the assist inside the Egerton penalty area for Ellie Dyson to score in the fourth minute.

Ashley's speculative shot forced an error from the Egerton 'keeper for the second two minutes later.

Chelsea Gillies, Molly Hewitt and Marcia Jones-Sacharewicz all went close to adding a third.

Barker was unlucky when a thunderous free kick cannoned off the bar, almost landing back at her feet in the 18th minute.

But Egerton's prowess on the break would have caught out the Linnets but for an excellent save from Lyndsey Hopley.

Jess Bazley, with some fine work down the right, created the chance for Ashley's second 10 minutes from the break.

Ellie Isherwood then popped up from left back with a shot from distance, alnost beating the Egerton 'keeper.

The half ended with a visiting defender coming perilously close to putting through her own goal as she deflected a Molly Hewitt cross shot over the bar.

Runcorn continued to have most of the possession in the second half, squandering a number of chances before conceding from a superb free kick in the 67th minute.

But Bazley, again down the right, created the chance for Dyson to score her second in the 74th minute.

That is nine now for the young striker since signing from local rivals Brookvale United.

Egerton pulled a goal back from a corner in the 78th minute, Hopley in the Runcorn goal sustaining what is hopefully not a serious injury.

All Jess Bazley's hard work was rewarded on 82 minutes with a goal, this time Dyson repaying her team-mate with the telling pass.

Lucy Wieland, right at the death, scored the Linnets' sixth goal as her shot took a deflection to beat the Egerton 'keeper with little time left on the clock.
