SAINTS and Sydney Roosters paid a tribute to their former teammate Mose Masoe ahead of the World Club Challenge match, with players from both sides wearing warm-up shirts numbered 8 with 'Mose' on the back.

They were signed and are due to be auctioned off shortly.

The popular Saints 2014 Grand Final winning prop is currently in the spinal injury ward at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield after suffering a serious injury while playing a pre-season game for Hull KR six weeks ago.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning he explained that he has a massive motivation to walk again – his fourth child is due in July.

And alongside the pictures of his son and two daughters on the wall of his hospital room there's also an ultra-sound of the baby his partner Carissa will have in July.

"I want to walk again," he says.

"There's a lot of milestones that are coming up and I want to be there for them."

Masoe has had surgery and has regained some of the feeling in his arms and hands, although he can't use his fingertips.

He has been overwhelmed by the good wishes of friends and strangers alike in this past six weeks – with donations coming in too for his fund.

Masoe has also relived the innocuous tackle from that fateful day hundreds of times in his head.

"I've seen a replay of the tackle," Masoe said.

"You know how you can drop your iPhone a hundred times and it doesn't crack, but that one time you drop it perfectly and it shatters?

"That's how it felt. The doctor said that was the perfect way to hurt it. I went up high, and I hyperextended my neck.

"There was a little bit of pressure on the top and it was just gone. I could've made that tackle a hundred times and not hurt myself. It was just that one time. Just a freak accident."
