WIDNES Vikings take on Batley Bulldogs at Halton Stadium on Sunday 9 February (3pm kick-off) in the first home game of the Championship campaign.

Tim Sheens’ men started the 2020 Betfred Championship season with a 36-6 win over Oldham to take them to the top of the table.

Tries came from Jack Johnson (two), Jack Owens, Jake Spedding, Shane Grady, Deon Cross and Sam Wilde.

Jack Owens kicked four goals.

There were debuts for Jake Spedding, Deon Cross, Pat Moran, Kenny Baker and Connor Dwyer in Sheens' first competitive match at Vikings.

Sheens said: “It is early days against a newly promoted side so let’s not get carried away too much.

“I thought we played pretty well for most of the game, so we can build on that.”

Sheens gave a fitness update on Jay Chapelhow, six weeks to two months away, and Macgraff Leuluai expected to be back for the London home game in a fortnight.

There was huge 1,000-strong travelling support at Bower Fold, contributing massively to the gate.

Club captain Jack Owens said: “Walking out to that support was something all of the lads will remember for a long time."
