EMMA Pearson has made a little piece of history for Widnes Wild.

The club’s women’s team captain was named Oddballs’ WNIHL Division 1 North Player of the Month for November – the first Wild player to win a monthly award for more than two years.

Player-coach Ollie Baron was the club’s last winner as he won the inaugural men’s award in the Laidler Division back in October 2017.

Pearson, who was also named her team’s player of the month, celebrated in style with a hat-trick in the Wild’s crucial win over league leaders Solway Sharks on Sunday.

The 9-5 victory at Planet Ice Widnes gives a huge boost to their title hopes.

With Solway leading 4-3 at the second period break – with two goals from Pearson and one for Leen de Decker for Widnes – the hosts stunned their visitors with two goals within eight seconds from de Decker and Sav Sumner.

This seemed to unsettle Solway and Sumner struck again before further powerplay goals from Katie Fairclough and Emma Martin built up a commanding lead.

Pearson then struck her hat-trick goal to round of the scoring for the Wild.

Unfortunately, the men’s team were on the end of a heavy defeat in the NIHL Midland Cup on Sunday.

They were beaten 13-2 at Solihull Barons, with Jakub Hajek scoring both of the Wild’s goals.
