WIDNES Vikings have launched a third kit for the 2020 season, with the all-black design available to buy from today onwards.

The ‘Blackout’ shirt is the first of its kind in Rugby League, and pays homage to the town’s past, in which the products of Widnes’ industry benefited the entire nation.

This is shown in the club’s launch video, showing that the town of Widnes may not have always been considered the most 'fashionable' or affluent, but is a place that is proud of its industrial roots, and revels in the fact it punches well above its weight for the benefit of the rest of the country, both in sport and industry.

The video also incorporates some of the greatest players in the sport’s past that have been born and bred in the town and developed by the club, with the likes of Vince Karalius, Frank Myler and Dougie Laughton going on to gain representative honours.

The ‘Wonders of Widnes’ were at the heart of the club’s most successful period and also helped Great Britain claim their last ever Ashes victory over Australia, a side which Frank Myler captained and Dougie Laughton featured in.

This translates into the current group of players in 2020, with a number of the first team squad being homegrown, locally based or carry ties to the club, knowing exactly what it means to play for this club.

The Vikings have entered into an exciting partnership with Oxen Sports and Elite Pro Sports for 2020, and have worked closely with them to produce this alternative third kit for next season.

The innovative design will be available to purchase from the Club Shop and online from Friday 29 November.

Only the shirt of this third kit will be available for purchase to supporters, with a limited amount of shirts on sale from Friday morning.
