How Albion players rated at Villa Park...

MATY RYAN 7

An early fumble was forgotten as he produced some super saves and looked composed with ball at feet.

MARTIN MONTOYA 6

Lively down the right and won the free-kick which led to the goal. But might have buried a good chance and was in danger of a second yellow.

ADAM WEBSTER 8

Opened his Albion account with an excellent run off the ball and downward header and added some super defending while composed with the ball at his feet.

LEWIS DUNK 8

Calm on the ball and one raking pass into Gross really caught the eye but his defending, with Gareth Southgate in the stand, was excellent.

DAN BURN 7

Started at left-back and found a lot of danger arriving down his flank once Villa got into the game. More comfortable with a bit of protection ahead of him in the second half.

DALE STEPHENS 7

Showed a nice range of passing and was unlucky not to be fed the ball after a lung-bursting run forward. Troubled by Grealish.

DAVY PROPPER 6

Some nice stuff on the ball although he found the top tier with a shot. Easily beaten at times without the ball.

AARON MOOY 4

Started the game so well with movement and ideas but shot his team in the foot with his quickfire double yellow.

PASCAL GROSS 6

Some clever work on the ball and his delivery for the goal as spot on. But some question over the options he took at times.

AARON CONNOLLY 6

His first away Prem start and got into some good positions but finishing touch was missing. Taken off for tactical reasons at the break.

The Argus:

NEAL MAUPAY 7

Great movement to get into dangerous positions but finishing touch was missing and Heaton saved when he found the target.

SUBS

SOLLY MARCH 6

Went close with a low shot and was a good outlet down the left after going on at half-time.

SHANE DUFFY

Went on during the second half and defended well.

STEVEN ALZATE

Very tidy on the ball in some pressure situations.
