A WIDNES student won a silver medal in the prestigious English Schools Championships over the weekend.

Meg Corker, a student at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic College, finished second in the final of the 75m hurdles at junior level at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

She won her heat in 11.59 seconds into a horrible 5.3m per second wind on Friday to qualify for the final on Saturday.

In the final, with a minimal wind of 0.1m per second behind her, she clocked 11.18 seconds to finish behind the defending champion Mia MacIntosh, who smashed her personal best with 10.75secs.

The success did not end there for Meg, who runs with Warrington Athletics Club, and the Cheshire team.

She went on to run in the 4x100m relay on Friday where the Cheshire team finished in second place with a time of 49.42secs to qualify for the final the following day, when sixth was achieved in 49.31sec with Meg on the final leg on both occasions.

In the team competition Cheshire finished third in the Forrester Trophy for junior girls and second in the overall competition for the Bradford Cup.
