WIDNES RUFC’s recent defeat of Trafford MV saw them claim the Lancashire Trophy in front of a packed crowd at Rochdale RUFC last weekend.

It was the third and final leg of an incredible treble that saw them put together an unprecedented unbeaten run of 23 matches in all competitions, in which they claimed both the ADM Premier League title the League Cup and finally the Lancashire Trophy.

It has been a remarkable ‘rags-to-riches’ story for a side who chose to join the newly formed Lancashire Rugby County Leagues last year. They then proceeded to lose their first three matches of the season which left them marooned at the foot of the table before mounting this remarkable turnaround in fortunes.

And, not only has it been their most successful season on the pitch ever, it has all been achieved during the Club’s 60th anniversary which they are celebrating with the making a documentary film and complementary handbook about the ‘Wids’ which will be completed and released shortly.
