Latchford Albion 16 Widnes Tigers 18
LATCHFORD Albion could not quite reel in early pace-setters Widnes Tigers despite a grandstand finish at Victoria Park.
A try for debutant full-back Alex Davies with three minutes remaining brought Martyn Ellis’ side to within two points, but the visitors survived the late onslaught.
Earlier, Sam Dobson dummied through to open the scoring for Albion before the Tigers hit back with three tries to establish a two-score lead at the break.
Phil Woollacott raced in from dummy-half to bring Latchford back into the game but Widnes’ next try proved decisive despite Davies’ excellent solo run to score between the posts.
Albion travel to Oldham St Annes A on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.
