JAKE Mamo says he will be happy to be “on the better end” of chants from Warrington Wolves supporters this year.

The versatile outside back has been confirmed as The Wire’s sixth new addition for 2019 and has signed a one-year deal at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, subject to receiving a visa.

Mamo, 24, has spent the past two seasons with Huddersfield Giants and has made a habit of scoring tries against Warrington.

Most recently, he scored a hat-trick playing on the wing in The Wire’s 26-24 victory over the Giants in last season’s Super 8s.

He arrived in England with long, flowing dark hair which he admits may have earned him his fair share of teasing from opposition fans.

Now, he hopes a slightly more tamed hairstyle combined with good performances on the field will win the Wire faithful over.

“I’m very excited to be signing for the Warrington club with its history,” he said.

“I’ve been wanting to join a strong club for a long time so I’m excited for this opportunity and am thankful to Steve (Price), Simon (Moran) and Karl (Fitzpatrick).

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the year ahead holds.

“I’ve been on the end of some stick from the Warrington fans in the past, especially when I had my long hair.

“I know they are great supporters who are always loud so it will be good to be on the better end of that this year.”

The outside back region was known to be an area in which head coach Steve Price was keen to strengthen in the off-season.

With the dependable Mitch Brown departing, he was open about his desire to recruit someone with the ability to cover a multitude of positions.

Having featured mainly at full-back but also extensively on the wing and in the centres, Mamo appears to fit the bill nicely.

“After speaking with Steve I’ve come here to improve and add value to this team wherever I can,” the Australian said.

“I love the Super League and living in the UK, so I wasn’t ready to go home yet and I’m now looking forward to living in a new part of the north of England.

“I’m going into the team not knowing anyone but I have a few mutual friends.

“I’ve heard that they are all good guys and I look forward to meeting them.

“It will be fun to get into training now.”

Mamo is set to join up with many of his new teammates when they begin pre-season training on Monday.
