HALTON'S senior swimming squad finally got their hands on the M&D Swimming League winners shield last week seven months after the last gala.

With Halton leading the league after four events the final gala was due to be held at Everton’s home pool but with them unable to organise the last fixture Halton were crowned champions for the 2017/2018 season.

This is the first time that Halton have won the trophy after years of competing in the league.

It was a really close and exciting league and all swimmers swam brilliantly over the six months it took to complete the competition.

Halton won the first gala in September last year, with Everton coming second and Garston in third.

In October, Halton finished in third place with Everton finishing in first and Prescot coming second. Moving on to February this year Halton finished in second place behind Everton by seven points.

The last home gala at Kingsway saw Halton finish in first place again with Everton finishing in second.

The placings after the four events were 1st - Halton (743), 2nd - Everton (735), 3rd - Prescot (672), 4th - Garston (594), 5th - Liverpool Penguins (453).

A really close finish at the end but Halton came away as champions.
