IT was medals galore at the Percy Mason Memorial Gala for Halton Swimming Club competitors.

Leading the medal hunt at the Orford Jubilee Hub in Warrington was 12-year-old Sophie Buckley, who claimed five golds in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 200m individual medley.

Sophie also won silver medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

Not far behind was Halton’s new up and coming star, nine-year-old Sam Hyland, who competed in eight events and collected four gold medals and four silver.

Sam's gold medals came in the 50m butterfly, 200m individual medley, 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. Silver medals came in the 100m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Eleven-year-old Sam Shurie collected gold in the 50m backstroke, bronze in the 100m freestyle and a silver in the 200m backstroke, while 13-year-old Emmie Brownlow swam in two events and collected two bronze medals in the 200m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

Twelve-year-old Alfie Mather won gold medals in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle as well as silver medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly, both in new personal best times.

Alfie also collected a bronze in the 200m individual medley in a new PB.

Thirteen-year-old Claudio Mecklenburgh competed in four events, securing a fine gold medal in the 50m freestyle and also produced two good performances in the 50m and 100m breaststroke in which he won silvers.

Claudio also came fifth in the 100m freestyle.

Nine-year-old Cerys Neil won silver medals in the 50m freestyle and 200m breaststroke and also claimed a bronze medal in the 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.

Fellow nine-year-old Natasha Molyneux produced two new PBs in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.

Ellenore Whitfield, 9, produced a PB in the 50m breaststroke and swam for the first time in the 50m butterfly event.

Ruby Pritchard, 10, won a bronze medal in the 50m and 200m breaststroke and the 50m freestyle in a new PB and finished just outside the medals in the 100m backstroke.

Her teammate, 10-year-old Rachel Lane, produced a new PB in the 50m freestyle and swam for the first time in the 100m freestyle event.

Rachel also claimed a new PB in the 50m backstroke.

Jess Connolly, 13, achieved a gold medal in the 200m backstroke and produced new PBs in the 50m and 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle.

Fourteen-year-old Libby Harrison won a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and 11-year-old Hannah Forsyth claimed a new PB in the 200m breaststroke.

Nine-year-olds Sam Brownlow and Jack Mather produced PBs in the 50m backstroke. Jack also got a PB in the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.
