WIDNES Vikings have featured some landmark moments in their history with their 2018 home kit.

The strip is the club’s traditional black and white with a dash of electric yellow - a kickback to O’Neill’s very first Widnes Vikings away kit, which was famously worn in the club’s victorious Northern Rail Cup semi-final against Halifax.

This game gave the club the opportunity to win the competition and gain eligibility to apply for a Super League licence.

The shirt features a vertical stripe design, which is not only reminiscing of the club's 1997 home design, but has also been adopted by the club during the past three Dacia Magic Weekend campaigns.

At the heart of the shirt is a commemorative star celebrating the Widnes’ reign as World Club Champions, after defeating Canberra Raiders at Old Trafford in 1989.

Members and supporters gained a sneak peak at the design by signing up for updates from BeattheScrum.com, a website built by the Vikings in conjunction with leading design agency, Carbon Creative.

The website supports the Vikings’ ground-breaking new partnership with the NHS, which aims help ease pressures faced by the NHS, in particular its A&E departments, by educating the public on how to choose the right health services.

Beat the Scrum will be the primary partner on the principal and alternative 2018 kits, accompanied by Rinnai, Riverside College, Motorpoint, Delivered Health Solutions, Landscape World, Worldwide Hospitality, Rainbow Laces, Gerard O’Donnell and Premier Cleaning Services.

Club Director, Richard Munson, has praised the Vikings' commercial partners for their support: “I would like to thank all of our corporate partners for their continued support in 2018.

"I would also like to welcome of number of new partners to the fold and hope you enjoy the experience of being a part of the Vikings Family.

“It is fantastic that in today’s challenging economic climate, so many corporate business’ can see the value, not only in the brand exposure offered by the Club, but in the association of being linked to the most passionate of Rugby League fanbases and a strong community focused organisation.”

The match-fit jersey will exclusively incorporate a silicon chest grip which depicts two Vikings at war, either side of the roman numeral ‘X’ symbolising, O’Neills decade of partnership with the Club.

The black and white shirt will be complemented by black shorts and socks with white trim.

O’Neills UK Sales Manager, Neil Williams, is delighted with the design for the 2018 campaign, saying: “O’Neills have always had a special partnership with Widnes Vikings and we are delighted to have been supplying the club for ten years.

"Widnes Vikings are a forward-thinking club with very high standards, and for the 2018 we have produced two outstanding match kit designs that will be complemented by the aptly named “Decade” leisurewear range.
