A woman has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the huge fire at Nottingham railway station last year.

British Transport Police (BTP) said Gemma Peat was re-arrested in Derby on Friday morning after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The 34-year-old had been released under investigation after her initial arrest in February last year.

The blaze on January 12, 2018 was tackled by up to 60 firefighters as it spread to the Grade II-listed station’s concourse roof.

It caused “significant” damage, forcing the closure of lifts, step-free access and toilets.

The fire caused major disruption to rail passengers, but there were no reported injuries.

In a statement, BTP said: “After consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Peat was charged with one count of arson with intent or being reckless to endanger life.

“Since the fire on January 12, 2018, detectives have worked continuously on the investigation and have conducted extensive inquiries, which have been supported by fire investigation specialists from Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue.”

Peat, of Wilford Crescent, Nottingham, has been remanded into custody to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on February 26.
