VIKINGS head coach Dennis Betts swopped his rugby ball for a wok as he created a chicken stir fry at Widnes market.
He was one of several guests to join Widnes born chef Brian Mellor for fun-filled live demonstrations, as part of Halton Council’s Foody Fortnight.
Former Wigan player Dennis, who was capped 32 times for Britain, said: “I do a lot of cooking at home. I have five daughters.
“I love food, I’m really passionate about it.
“As a sportsman, I always looked after myself and knew about diet.
“You can put anything in a stir fry, chop it up and chuck it in.”
Dennis teaches young Widnes players about nutrition and encourages them to cook fresh food.
Halton Mayor, Keith Morley cooked a curry, whilst a fishmonger demonstrated filleting fish and Paul Quigley from Norton Priory cooked with fresh produce and herbs.
