A HEATING engineer is in the running to be named the UK and Ireland’s top tradesperson.
Daniel Cross, from Widnes, has reached the semi-finals of Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2026, standing out from more than 900 entries across the UK and Ireland.
The competition recognises outstanding professionals in the trade industry and offers the winner a £20,000 prize bundle of tools, technology, and training.
Mr Cross said: "Making the semi-finals means a huge amount to me.
"I'm incredibly proud to represent Widnes and show the quality of tradespeople we have here.
"I've worked hard to build my career, so being recognised at this level is really special.
"I'm looking forward to sharing my story and hopefully doing Widnes proud in the final."
With 26 years of experience, Mr Cross runs D&N Heating Ltd and was selected for his skill, resilience, and commitment to customer care.
He impressed judges with his dedication to going the extra mile for clients and his pride in running a family business.
He said: "What I love most about working in the trade is knowing that what we do genuinely matters.
"When someone's heating has broken down, or they've been left without hot water, you can make a real difference to their day.
"Seeing the relief on a customer's face when everything is working again is something that never gets old."
Mr Cross is now one of just 26 semi-finalists.
He will compete for a place in the final 10, who will appear at Screwfix LIVE in September.
There, finalists will face a panel of industry experts, with one winner crowned Screwfix Top Tradesperson 2026.
This year’s winner will also join the Screwfix Hall of Fame, alongside reigning Screwfix Top Tradesperson, Martin Daly.
Jack Wallace, marketing director at Screwfix, said: "Now in its 17th year, our search for the UK and Ireland’s Top Tradesperson continues to shine a light on the brilliant talent across the trade.
"The hundreds of entries we receive each year reflects both the depth of talent across the UK and Ireland and the pride tradespeople take in their work.
"I wish all this year’s semi-finalists the best of luck."
