Luke Greenbank has now won every colour medal at every major championships – apart from Olympic gold.
The Crewe swimming star, 28, added Commonwealth bronze to his collection in the 200m backstroke event in Glasgow.
Greenbank finished third behind English teammate Ollie Morgan as South African favourite Pieter Coetze grabbed gold.
The Cheshire star has now won gold, silver and bronze at the Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships – plus silver and bronze at the Olympics.
He has never claimed that elusive triumph on the highest stage – but cherished adding gong another to his set to get his Glasgow campaign underway.
“The time is not what I wanted but to come away with a medal is what I did want,” he said.
“You can’t get too lost in terms of results – there are plenty of positives from that, plenty to work on and hopefully we can go faster in a few weeks.
“I’ve now actually won every medal at every championship we have apart from Olympic gold, so it’s a funny one.
“It’s kind of nice getting the bronze – I’m not saying I would have preferred it to a higher medal but it’s nice to almost complete the set.”
Greenbank is one of 251 Team England athletes here in Glasgow, all of whom benefit from crucial National Lottery funding.
He now turns his attention to the 200m butterfly event before the European Championships in Paris at the end of this month.
And he added: “That was the aim – we’ve got Europeans in a couple of weeks’ time and 200m butterfly tomorrow, so the focus shifts to that.”
