A WIDNES man is travelling to Morocco to complete a mountain climb fundraiser in memory of his best friend who lost his battle with cancer, aged 43.
Anthony Gregory has set up a fundraising page to raise as much money as possible for his cherished friend's family after his sad death in November.
On his Go Fund Me Page he said: "On November 25, aged just 43, my best mate Rob Gore sadly lost his brave battle with cancer after fighting for six years.
"On April 22, I’ll be traveling to Morocco to climb Mount Toubkal — fulfilling a promise I made to him."
Anthony revealed on the funding page that he and Rob shared a love of walking.
"Some of my best memories of Rob are from those walks, sharing laughs and putting the world to rights," he said.
However, in-between their walks, Rob was battling cancer and facing gruelling rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to try and treat the disease.
Despite this, the 43-year-old continued to walk and raise money for charity, Anthony said.
"Climbing Toubkal feels like a fitting way to remember him — doing something we both loved.
"Most importantly, I want to raise some money for the children he left behind. Every penny raised will go directly to them."
Anthony aimed to raise £1,000 with the fundraiser but has doubled that figure currently with an incredible £2,000 raised.
He added: "If you’re able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean so much and it will go straight to what mattered most to him."
