A FURTHER flood alert has been issued for the River Mersey estuary in Widnes and Runcorn.
An alert was previously issued on Tuesday, warning that flooding is possible and urging residents to be prepared, but this has now been renewed.
It covers swathes of Widnes, as well as fringes of Runcorn close to the Mersey.
The flood alert reads: “This flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast this afternoon, Thursday.
“Flooding is possible at low-lying lands and roads from 2pm today, but flooding of property is not expected.
“We currently anticipate the flood alert level to be met during the next high tide during the early hours of tomorrow morning, Friday.
“Our incident rooms are on standby and we are closely monitoring the situation.
“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near watercourses, and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
“This message will be updated this afternoon by 5pm, or as the situation changes.”
