MORE than 200 children's books will be hidden in parks in a project to get young ones reading.

Amy Rushworth has launched the Look for a Book St Helens event, taking place over the Easter holidays.

Books are to be hidden around Taylor Park, Sherdley Park and Victoria Park and whoever finds the book can have it to keep, or read and then re-hide it to continue the fun.

The first book hunt will be at Victoria Park from 10am on Good Friday, March 29.
The next is at Taylor Park from 10am on Easter Monday, April 1 and the third at Sherdley Park from 11am on Thursday, April 4.

Amy, who owns 'Amy's Little Book Boutique', says the idea came to help get children reading in light of the recent closures of some of the borough's libraries.

All of the books have been sponsored by six local businesses and children can share a photo of their book and where they found it on Facebook and Instagram and tag Amy's Little Book Boutique and the business who sponsored it.

Amy said: "I want to use (my) business to do community projects. Look for a Book is my first one which I thought would be a good idea since the recent library closures so that some of the children that now don't have access to free books could have a chance to find one.

"Also it's a lovely way to get children outside and involved in an activity out in nature."

She added: "The books will be hidden around Victoria Park, Taylor Park and Sherdley Park. I will be hiding a number of bonus books around random places and posting clues in the Look for a Book Facebook group. 210 books will be hidden.

"The books are all lovely illustrated fiction books. 100 of them are suitable for beginner readers age three-plus and the rest are for five-plus."
