A WIDNES grocery store with a rich family history has scooped a top national award.
In recognition of its outstanding food-to-go and drinks-to-go offerings, Avondale Stores has been awarded Impulse Retailer of the Year at The Bestway Awards.
The awards celebrate outstanding achievements and business successes from independent retailers up and down the country.
They look to shine a light on those who go ‘above and beyond’ in providing excellent service to their customers and local communities.
Avondale Stores, based on Sunningdale Avenue, has seen record growth sales in the last year and store manager Ricky Nestor says that this is down to the team.
The business has a long and successful rich family history which propelled Ricky to take on the management of the store from his mother three years ago.
It has been the cornerstone of the family for more than 20 years when Ricky’s grandfather originally brought the store and over the years the family have created a much-loved community hub.
Avondale Stores received the award at a prestigious ceremony hosted at London’s Marriot Hotel.
Ricky said: “I’m delighted to be awarded Impulse Retailer of the Year at the Bestway Awards for our store.
“My passion for retail started when I worked as a team leader in various retail businesses and then for six years at the Bestway Manchester depot.
“It was here that I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience of the convenience sector and decided that I wanted to take over running my mum’s store when she retired.”
