A MOTORIST has been arrested for endangering road users following an incident involving debris on the road on the M62 westbound.
Traffic has now been released but severe delays of up to an hour are still being experienced after their was debris on the carriageway and a 'large' oil spillage on junction 7 A57 Warrington Road (Rainhill Stoops).
The M62 westbound has been closed since 8am this morning, Tuesday.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "The M62 in Merseyside remains closed westbound between Junction 7, Rainhill & Junction 6 M57 due to a large oil spillage caused by a number of vehicles hitting a prop shaft which became detached from a bus.
"Clear-up works will be ongoing for some time. There's an hour delay on approach."
Meanwhile North west Motorway Police confirmed they had a arrested a driver on the junction for 'endangering road users'.
There are still severe delays leading up from junction 7, Rainhill through to junction 9, Winwick.
