A RUNCORN animal hospital is thrilled to have won a prestigious national environmental award for waste management.

Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) took the top sport for Best Waste Reduction in the Investors in the Environment 2023 awards.

These recognise UK businesses that have gone above and beyond to reduce waste management.

The judges recognised NWVS for a series of environmental measures including reducing paper use and waste by a third and reducing the use of disposable incontinence sheets by more than 46 per cent.

The firm was also highlighted for housekeeping members ensuring waste is in the correct recyclable bins across the premises.

Lauren Bate, a veterinary physiotherapist at NWVS, said: “We have made a concerted effort to switch to reusable or low-waste products, and this determination has made a real positive impact in reducing our waste.”

Investors in the Environment is a nationwide initiative encouraging firms to introduce more environmentally friendly, cleaner and more sustainable working practices.

Jenny Pearson, hospital manager at NWVS, added: “This is a fantastic achievement by all the team at NWVS and is testament to their hard work in reducing waste.

“To be recognised as number one in the UK for best waste reduction is no mean feat, and it also provides further incentive to push even further in 2024 to regain the crown.”
