Silty Pig Angling Centre, based on Deacon Road, sells a variety of branded baits, tackle, luggage and all you need for fishing.

A message was posted on the businesses’ Facebook page by owners Chris and Stace revealing it is to close this weekend.

The statement reads: “Well, this is a message I have been avoiding making with a lump in my throat.

“I just want to let everyone know that Saturday is going to be my last day trading as the Silty Pig Angling Centre.

“The last 12 months have been extremely hard across the industry, and it has been increasingly difficult to make ends meet.

“I feel it has come to a point now where it is time to close the shop, as it is now affecting my family life and personal health, and has made me lose some of the passion I have for fishing.

“I would like to thank every single customer who has come in to the shop – I appreciate every one of you.

“I have also made some really true friends which has defied the odds that those people that told me ‘It’s a business, not social club’, and I have loved the atmosphere my shop.

“I am going to miss everyone, I really am, but I will see some of you on the bank or the beach.

“I have a week or two now to reset myself and find a job.

“I hope you all appreciate that this decision has not been made lightly, and again I thank you for your custom, support, loyalty and friendship.”

The news received dozens of comments from well-wishers, with one posting: “Sorry to hear this. Good luck with future ventures.”
