AN emergency service presence was reported at an academy in Runcorn after a student collapsed.

Paramedics attended Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy on Tuesday to check over a boy who had taken medication and also used vape, which allegedly contained cannabis.

The trust which runs the Barnfield Avenue academy has confirmed that another student was found with a prohibited item which was confiscated, and that the student ‘will not be returning to the academy’.

Cheshire Police also attended and issued a community order to a 16-year-old boy who admitted possession of the vape.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 10am on Tuesday, January 9, police were made aware that a child had collapsed at a school in Runcorn.

“Officers attended and found that the teenager had taken a number of medications and also used vape, which allegedly contained cannabis.

“The child was checked at the scene by paramedics.

“A 16-year-old boy has admitted possession of the vape. He has been issued with a community order.

“Police would like to reassure parents and carers that this incident is believed to be isolated, and there are no ongoing concerns in the local community.”

A spokesman for Ormiston Academies Trust, which runs the academy, added: “Emergency services were called to the school on Tuesday to help a student who had fallen ill after taking non-prescribed medicine.

“We are pleased to say that the student received excellent medical support.

“Another student was also found with a prohibited item which was immediately confiscated.

“Our behaviour policy and sanctions are clear on the matter of prohibited items and we implemented these immediately, with the student involved not returning to the academy.

“While this was an isolated incident which did not impact our wider student body, we are treating it extremely seriously and remain committed to ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all our students, alongside upholding high standards in behaviour.”
