A CARER from Runcorn who ‘goes above and beyond’ has been named Support Worker of the Year.

Phillip Gahan works for social care charity Community Integrated Care and was given the honour at the Great North West Care Awards for his ‘creative approach’ to his role.

Hosted by Care Talk Magazine, the awards celebrate the very best in social care across the region.

Winners of the regional ceremonies, including Mr Gahan, will go through to the awards national finals which will take place in March next year.

Philip was praised by judges for his dedication and creativity within his job, with him previously having hosted in-house talent shows and offering support to people to achieve their greatest aspirations and to do so with as much independence as possible.

Judges said: “Phillips’s dedication goes above and beyond, and his creative touch creates cherished and unforgettable moments for all.”

Philip spoke of the ‘honour’ of being given the award, adding: “To have my creative approach to support recognised makes my artistic heart buzz.

“I believe that bringing art and creativity to my role as support worker and looking outside the box when I've faced new challenges, has enhanced the support I provide.

“I've endeavoured to make the everyday exciting, entertaining and fun for the people I support. I'm so proud and grateful for the recognition.”

Samantha Brennan, Community Integrated Care’s managing director for the north west, said: “It was a brilliant evening and we were all incredibly proud of Phillip for being awarded the Support Worker Award.

“He is such a committed and hard-working colleague and his creativity and proactive approach to support really shines through.

"He’s a testament to our fantastic team at Holmdale, and we can’t wait to see what great things he will achieve next.”
