ONE driver has been taken to hospital after a four-car crash closed the M56 this morning, Thursday.

Long queues of up to seven miles were caused following the collision which happened shortly before 8am.

The westbound carriageway was brought to a standstill between junction 12 and 14 following ‘a possible medical emergency’.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “The collision is believed to have involved four vehicles.

“One driver was taken to hospital.

“The road has since reopened.”

National Highways warns drivers ‘to allow time for the delays to ease’.

Congestion is still causing delays on the M56 and surrounding roads.
