LONG queues of up to seven miles are facing drivers on the M56 following a crash.
The westbound carriageway between junction 12 for Runcorn and junction 14 for Helsby, is closed following 'a possible medical emergency'
Emergency services are at the scene.
A spokesman for National Highways said on social media: "Traffic is currently being held on the M56 westbound between junction 12 for Runcorn and junction 14 for Elton following a possible medical emergency."
There is heavy congestion on roads throughout the area.
The agency has just confirmed that all lanes have reopened.
However, there is still congestion of seven miles.
National Highways warns drivers to 'allow time for the delays to ease'.
Delays of 60 minutes are expected.
