THIS warm and welcoming primary school in Runcorn has been highly praised by education watchdogs.

St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School, part of the Holy Family Catholic Multi-Academy Trust, was rated good in all areas by Ofsted following an inspection in September.

Inspectors summarised in the official report how the school has a ‘calm and purposeful atmosphere’ and that pupil’s ‘care for and respect each other’.

The curriculum at the Conwy Court school is ‘well-structured’ and ambitious for all pupils who attend.

“In most subjects, it is clear what the important knowledge is that pupils must learn,” the inspectors said.

“Teachers’ subject knowledge is strong. This allows them to deliver the curriculum in a way that enables pupils to build their knowledge well over time.”

Reading is set high in the list of teaching priorities, the official report states.

“Pupils benefit from a wide range of reading resources which promote access to, and a love of, reading. For example, a reading hut provides a cosy haven for pupils to enjoy their reading activities.”

Meanwhile children with SEND ‘achieve well’ and ‘learn alongside their peers’.

Behaviour and attitudes of the students were another area to be praised by the inspectors who said, “Pupils’ behaviour in class and around the school is very positive.

“As a result, pupils learn in an environment that is free from distractions for the vast majority of the time. Pupils are polite, respectful and welcoming.”

Lastly it was identified that safeguarding arrangements put in place in the school were deemed ‘effective’.
