A MAN has been left with 'mushrooms growing' in his home in Hough Green, Widnes.

Writing to the Runcorn and Widnes World to explain his dire situation, the man - who will not be named - says that he has lived at the property since 2017.

A Brookdale resident for six years, the man says he has had dealings with his landlords about issues with his home before.

The man is a Halton Housing tenant, and has a number of health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder and sleep apnea.

He also has asthma, which makes the problems he has within his home more serious for him.

The resident says that he has had persistent issues with damp and mould within his home, and he has complained about this several times to Halton Housing.

He says that Halton Housing were called out two years ago, and assured him that this issue would not rear its head again.

However, the resident has subsequently seen damp and mould return, and worse than before.

He told the Runcorn and Widnes World that he now has 'mushrooms growing' in his home due to the extent of the problems.

The resident summed up his problems by adding: "There's mould and damp, with water dripping in the front room and bedroom."

When contacted for comment, a Halton Housing spokesperson said: "Our customers’ safety and wellbeing remains our top priority.

"We became aware of some issues at the property in 2020 and worked with the customer to complete all repairs to resolve the issues at the time.

"We were sorry to hear more recently, that the customer has been experiencing some further issues.

"We are currently working with them to resolve these; some repairs have already been completed and we will continue to work with the customer until all issues are resolved."
