PLANS to build a block of flats on the former site of a church in Runcorn are progressing.

Housing association Onward has submitted a planning application to Halton Borough Council to transform the site of the former Murdishaw Methodist Church.

A proposed 12 ‘much-needed and affordable’ homes are set to be built on the land just off Ridgeway if permission is granted.

After revealing redevelopment plans in September and inviting residents to share their feedback, Onward says it aims to provide quality and affordable homes in a single, low-rise apartment block, offering a mix of one and two-bedroom properties.

Growth and regeneration director Stephen Heverin said: “Our plans for the site present an opportunity to bring more quality affordable homes to Murdishaw, transforming an abandoned space into a place that local people can call home.

“We have worked closely with the council to design our plans to ensure that these reflect their vision for the area and local housing needs.”

If approved, the homes will be available through rent-to-buy, with residents paying a reduced rate to enable those who are struggling to get onto the property ladder the chance to save for a deposit and eventually purchase a home.

Stephen added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank those that have taken the time to share their views.

“We will continue to work with our partners now that the planning application has been submitted.”
