THE Silver Jubilee Bridge was ablaze with colour for a fireworks spectacular.

And to make the night extra special, there was a dazzling light display.

The new LED lighting system told the story of the iconic bridge - the river, bridge construction and ships along the canal – building up to the fireworks being launched from the structure.

Tens of thousands of people gathered on the banks of the Mersey in Runcorn and Widnes and at nearby vantage points.

The 15-minute firework display, set to music, filled the sky with a kaleidoscope of colours, finishing with a spectacular golden finale.

This year’s fireworks display was only able to go ahead thanks to the generosity of local businesses.

Beesley & Fildes, Marshall, Halton Housing, Langtree and Tarmac all sponsored the event, alongside funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Cllr Paul Nolan, portfolio holder for culture and leisure services, said: "What a fabulous display.

“It was great to see our bridge looking so amazing.

“I hope everyone who turned out to watch had a great time.

"I would like to pass on my thanks to all the sponsors of the fireworks display for their generosity.

“We could not have put the event on without them."
