MAJOR funding approval has seen a Runcorn church receive a much-needed £14,000 renovation.

St Edward’s Catholic Church on Ivy Street was successful in its application for a grant to renovate the ‘sad and dysfunctional’ kitchen in the parish community hall, attached to the church building.

The funding amounted to £14,309.81 in total and covered the complete refurbishment, which entailed the stripping of all units and interior in the kitchen and the replacement of fresh new cupboards, work tops, tiles, flooring and more.

A spokesman for the church said: “Prior to the refurbishment, the kitchen was looking very sad and dysfunctional, Now it is light, bright, user friendly, easy to maintain and clean.

“It is an asset to the parish groups which prepare food and snacks and a selling point for any community groups who have an interest in its hire.

“The whole parish community and other users were involved in providing the documents to prove the need for the improvements.”

The majority of the contributions came from a non-profit organisation, FCC Communities Foundation Ltd, with other donations being made by the All Churches Trust.

Jane Rhodes, Halton Borough Council’s community development officer, assisted members of the church with the application to prove the renovation was necessary and needed.

The project was completed to a ‘high standard’ by The Gallery Kitchens and Bathrooms, a local kitchen fitter in Runcorn.
