A CAR ploughed into the sandstone wall of an ancient Widnes church.
The vehicle smashed through brickwork at St Luke’s Church in Farnworth, shortly after 9pm last night, Friday.
The silver saloon came to rest between big old tombstones and one of the entrance doors.
The church on Pit Lane dates back to the 12th century and is the oldest in Halton.
The first grammar school was founded in the church in 1507 and a magistrates court opened in 1537.
