Widnes Shopping Park is one of 11 such sites sold by Ediston Property Investment Company to investors Realty Income Corporation last month.

The deal is believed to have been worth roughly £200million.

William Hill, chairman of Ediston, said: "Having considered multiple options, and after detailed analysis, the board determined a sale of the property portfolio to Realty Income was the best means of maximising shareholder value."

The other 10 retail parks involved in the deal are:

Springkerse Retail Park, Stirling.

Pallion Retail Park, Sunderland.
