A COLLISION has seen delays of nearly one hour on the M56 eastbound this morning, Wednesday.

The incident has been reported eastbound on the M56 between Junction 14 and Junction 12.

According to National Highways North West, which posted on social media: "There's a 50-minute delay on the M56 eastbound in Cheshire between J14 (Hapsford) and J12 (Runcorn) due to a collision.

"Our Traffic Officers and emergency services are en route to scene.

"Updates to follow shortly."

The AA's route planner has described the traffic as being hit by 'serious delays.'

An update from National Highways North West reads: "Traffic has now been held on the M56 eastbound in Cheshire between J14 (Hapsford) and J12 (Runcorn).

"Our Traffic Officers are on scene and working to move vehicles onto the hard shoulder.

"There's now over an hour delay on approach with six miles of congestion."

National Highways North West has announced that all lanes have now reopened, though congestion remains.

The latest update reads: "Traffic has now been released, and all lanes have re-opened on the M56 eastbound in Cheshire between J14 (Hapsford) and J12 (Runcorn).

"Very long delays remain in the area but should now start to ease."
