A MAJOR road shut for two months to build a new junction is reopening three days early.

The Daresbury Expressway will be back in action on Monday, October 23.

This will come as welcome news for thousands of drivers who use this busy route between Runcorn and Warrington every day.

Drivers have had to follow a seven-mile detour since it closed at the end of August.

Others travelling from Widnes to Warrington have faced long tailbacks of traffic diverting through Penketh.

One woman said: “It has been an absolute nightmare.

“I can’t wait for it to re-open.”

People living in Moore say they are relieved as many drivers have been ignoring ‘no through route’ signs and taking rat runs through the village.

The closure was to allow a junction to be created for new homes that are part of the northern section of Redrow’s Daresbury Village, off Keckwick Lane.

This new junction has been installed between Innovation Way and Pitts Heath roundabout.

The road reopened for one week only to accommodate Creamfields which attracted around 70,000 dance festival goers.

The closure was initially planned to start in June but was postponed several times ‘for technical reasons’.

A spokesman for Halton Council said: “The Daresbury Expressway is due to reopen on Monday October 23.”

The work was due to be completed on October 26.
