THE best pet groomer in Cheshire has been revealed.

Cheshire Canine Salon in Runcorn has been crowned the best pet grooming business in the county at the Englands Business Awards.

The salon was founded by Winsford resident Opal Williams-Hulse when she was just 21-years-old.

“I’m honestly still shocked that I won , I’ve never won anything in my life,” she said.

“It’s an overwhelming feeling to have this much support from my customers.”

Opal, now 24, went to Winsford Academy before starting at Reaseheath College where she did an animal management course, alongside a dog grooming qualification.

Having worked for other businesses after qualifying in 2016, she decided to go self-employed to have more control over her work life.

Cheshire Canine Salon was launched at Early Paws, a dog day care in Sutton Weaver, in July 2021.

Now, Opal, who has two old english bulldogs herself, works six days a week and couldn't be happier.

She said: “I have always had a passion for animals, ever since I was little.

“I find dog grooming so therapeutic and always love the see the transformations.

“As well as this, when a nervous dog comes in, I like to take the time to ensure they’re comfortable. I had a dog who was absolutely terrified of grooming so I made them comfortable and a few sessions later the dog was actually pulling their owner to come into the salon!

“I also love the theory side of it, like why does a dog have a certain haircut and what is the correct haircut! There’s a lot to dog grooming."

On what she does to make her a worthy award winner, Opal added: “I think what I do is that I care for the animals so much and always put their welfare before looks.

“I would like to thank Early paws who allowed me to set up my business on their premises and have always given me support.

“I would also love to thank all my customers who make my job.”
