A POLICE dog helped catch two car thieves spotted at a service station in Lymm.

Police dog (PD) Toro was on hand, chasing and finding the carjackers who had abandoned their vehicle and ran, hiding in nearby undergrowth.

Police were called in the early hours of Tuesday, August 22, when officers were informed that a vehicle suspected to have been stolen had entered a service station in Lymm. This took place off the M6 at junction 20.

After officers attended the scene and located the vehicle, the teenage thieves got out and ran.

PD Toro made up a police dog unit deployed to search the area.

A 13-year-old and 15-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 2.50am on Tuesday, officers were notified that a suspected stolen had been seen entering the Poplars 2000 service station at junction 20 of the M6 for Lymm.

“Officers attended the scene and located the vehicle, a grey Ford Fiesta, and found that occupants had decamped and fled the scene on foot.

“The police dog unit was quickly deployed to conduct a search of the area, with officers arresting a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle who were found in nearby undergrowth.

“They have since been transferred to Lancashire Police.”
