THE M62 westbound will remain closed after a HGV fire this morning.

Closures between junction seven, Rainhill and junction six, Tarbock, were put in place while the emergency services tackled the incident.

Now highways officials have confirmed the closure will remain.

This is for on-going recovery and repairs afer the incident at 10am this morning, Friday.  The accident caused extensive damage, and emergency repairs need to be carried out.   Drivers travelling northbound on the M62 will be diverted off at junction seven. The diversion route will then guide traffic on to the second exit of the roundabout leading to the A557 heading south. Motorists should follow the A557 to the roundabout and join the A562 heading west. After continuing the A562 westbound to the roundabout, drivers should take the third exit on to the A5300. This will enable traffic to re-join the M62 westbound at junction seven.

The eastbound carriageway is now fully open.  A spokesman said: "The closures are essential to complete the repairs and ensure the safety of road users.

"Drivers are reminded to plan their journeys, allow extra time for travelling and check traffic conditions before setting off."
