MOTORISTS faced long delays on the M56 after the road was closed by police this morning, Friday.
Delays of more than 40 minutes and five miles of queues were reported heading eastbound.
The road was closed after a man was seen walking on the hard shoulder.
The incident was between junction 11 for Daresbury and 12 for Runcorn.
All traffic was stopped at 10am, but both carriageways have now reopened.
A spokesman for the police said: "There was concern for the welfare of a man walking along the hard shoulder carriageway, reported at 9.45am, was closed and man taken off the hard shoulder by ambulance to be checked over."
All lanes are now open on the #M56 eastbound between J12 (#Frodsham) and J11 (#Runcorn) following the earlier police led incident.
