FIREFIGHTERS are urging people to ‘stop and think’ after tackling a large fire over the weekend.
One fire engine from Widnes Fire Station rushed to Runcorn Hill yesterday afternoon, Monday, shortly after 5pm.
This came after Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of fern on fire at the nature reserve.
On arrival, the crew discovered that the fire involved a large amount of fern that was ‘well alight’.
Firefighters used two main water jets to control the fire and damp it down the area to prevent reignition or spread,
Posting on social media afterwards, Runcorn Fire Station said: “This is what our crews were met with last night.
“Runcorn Hill is a beautiful area to walk and take in nature, but it is being spoilt by deliberate fires.
“These spread quickly and cause large areas of damage. Please stop and think.”
