A ROYAL tea was served up for pupils at a primary school in Runcorn to honour the Coronation of King Charles III.

St Edward’s Catholic Primary School welcomed special visitors, mayor of Halton, Cllr Mark Dennett and mayoress, Andrea Dennett on Friday to their special festivities where a time capsule was buried in the grounds to mark the historic occasion.

Staff and children invited parents and the wider school community to be treated to an afternoon filled with cream tea and uplifting performances from the school choir.

Pupils sported their own custom-made crowns and afternoon tea was served in the school hall while parents and guests listened to the talented choir sing.

The mayor helped pupils bury the time capsule box filled with all the children’s coronation-themed work including posters, drawings, and illustrations of the special occasion – eagerly waiting to be discovered by the next generation of pupils in years to come.

Other time capsules are said to be buried around the grounds of St Edward’s too which are yet to have been discovered.

Reflecting on the afternoon, Cllr Dennett said: “It’s been fantastic. The children are so well behaved, and they clearly have a love for the school.

“It’s a lovely school and I wish all schools were like this. It’s great to see support like this for a community event and the community spirit coming together bringing out the best in the kids.”

Head teacher, Angela Snell added: “We’ve had phenomenal support from our parents, everything we do here is always really well attended.

“Unfortunately, we were rained off from hosting the event outside, but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.

“Everyone’s really enjoyed themselves and the have the support of the mayor, on election result day, what more could we ask for.”
