A YELLOW weather warning for heavy snow has been issued in Halton.

Forecasters believe the heavy snow has the potential to cause disruption today, Thursday, and tomorrow.

Residents have been told to expect possible travel delays on the roads stranding some vehicles and passengers, possible delays or cancellations to rail and air travel, and possible power cuts.

The yellow weather warning is in place from 7am today until 2pm tomorrow, Friday.

Forecasters believe there is a small chance of two to five centimetres of snow falling.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “An area of low pressure will move across the UK on Thursday and Friday with snow developing across Wales and central England early on Thursday morning.
“This is expected to move slowly north during the day, becoming slow-moving across north Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and southern Scotland during the afternoon and evening before slowly clearing southeast on Friday.

“Snow will likely turn to sleet or rain at times at lower elevations, especially in the south of the warning area, as well as near eastern coasts.”

Talking of the yellow warning last night, Wednesday, a Cheshire Police Facebook post reads: "In the last round of significant snow we experienced a high volume of calls for things that aren't police related - like roads being gritted or not.

"We really need our lines clear to respond to emergency incidents.

"If you need to report an issue with a road, please contact your council.

"The current warnings from Met Office run through into Friday - make sure you're aware of the current forecasts before you travel.

"Most importantly, be sensible and keep safe.

"If you don't have to drive tomorrow (today), stay home and warm!"
