A PUB in Widnes, previously shut down by police, is now up for sale.

The Beehive Inn on Halebank Road was shut down by police in 2021 over “persistent unacceptable behaviour and Covid-19 breaches”.

Now, however, the opportunity has arisen for someone to create a new reputation for the pub, as the owners have put it for sale on Rightmove.

In June 2021, Widnes Police announced the pub had been “closed indefinitely” following numerous complaints to Cheshire Constabulary and Halton’s licensing team.

These complaints varied from disorderly conduct, Covid-19 breaches, drug related activity, and underaged drinking.

In the most recent incident before the pub was closed, police attended the scene and found drug-related paraphernalia, as well as a machete and sledge hammer.

The ‘licensee’ of the pub was also found drunk behind the bar, with police finding multiple Covid-19 breaches.

The pub is available for just under £300,000 on Rightmove.

When it was shut in 2021, Chief Inspector Becky Stokes, Head of Widnes Local Policing Unit said: “I hope that this result provides reassurance to the local community and serves as a warning to those who have a significant detrimental impact on the quality of life of local residents through illegal and anti-social behaviour.

“The behaviour of both the licensee and the people visiting the premises has been totally unacceptable and I have no doubt that the closure will make a real difference to the local community.

“This has been a fantastic team effort and I would like to thank all of the officers involved in the closure, along with the brewery and local community for all the support that they have provided.”
