RESIDENTS are being told to prepare for snow and ice as a cold snap hits the borough.

It comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across swathes of the north west.

The warning will come into force from midday today, and it will remain in place through to midday tomorrow, Tuesday.

Forecasters say snow showers and icy stretches may cause some disruption, with some roads and railways likely to be affected and longer journey times probable by road, bus and train services.

Runcorn and Widnes World:

Some injuries could be sustained from slips and falls on icy surfaces, with icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths probable.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Snow showers will become more frequent through Monday, continuing to feed in on north westerly winds overnight.

“Accumulations of a couple of centimetres are possible at low levels, with higher ground expected to see 5cm to 10cm in places.

“In addition, icy stretches are likely to form following showers.”
