RESIDENTS have been warned of long and strong downpours, with tomorrow set to be a wash-out.

It comes as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for persistent heavy rain across the north west of England.

The warning will come into effect from 6am tomorrow morning, Tuesday, and it will remain in force through to 8am that same day.

Forecasters are warning that the flooding of some homes and businesses is likely, while bus and train services will probably be affected, with journey times taking longer.

Spray and flooding on roads could also make journey times longer, with some interruption to power supplies and other services possible.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Outbreaks of rain will spread across England and Wales during Tuesday.

“This will be heaviest and most persistent across parts of northwest England, particularly over higher ground.

“Rainfall totals of 60mm to 80mm could accumulate over parts of Cumbria.”
