CHESHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is holding recruitment days early next year.

The taster events will be held at the state-of-the-art training centre in Winsford and will give prospective applicants the chance to find out more about the application process.

This will involve having a go at some of the practical events, speaking to serving firefighters and learning more about the role.

Chief fire officer Alex Waller said: “This experience will help people who want to apply by learning more about the job, what is expected from initial application and how to improve strength and technique for the physical tests.”

Working as a firefighter offers benefits such as working in an environment where the health, safety and wellbeing of staff is paramount, opportunities for flexible hours and a having access to a wide range of staff networks.

Firefighters are also able to enjoy a varied career as only around five per cent of their time is spent attending emergency incidents.

They are actively involved in the community, carry out prevention work to reduce the chances of future fires occurring, work on and delivering road safety campaigns and work closely with young people.

Officer Waller continued: “Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is one of the best performing and innovative fire and rescue services in the country, acknowledged by many awards and accolades.

“Our vision is a simple one – to be an outstanding service where there are no deaths, injuries or damage from fires or other emergencies.

“We are looking for men and women with a wholehearted commitment and willingness to work hard as part of our team.

“I would therefore urge anyone who wants to make a difference within their communities and to change and save lives, to come to a taster session.”
